Congratulations to Junior Kevin Durham for being selected:

Orange County Register Boy Runner of the Year

Kevin becomes the second Charger boy to earn this honor.

(Brandon Bethke was selected as the Orange County Register Boy Runner of the Year as a Junior 2003 and Senior 2004)

National Meet

Kevin Durham placed 37th in the Nike Cross Country Nationals on Dec. 4th in Portland, Oregon. He was the 11th fastest underclassman (non senior) finisher.

California State Meet

*** El Toro Boys Cross Country finish 4th in the Division I State Meet ***

Congratulations to our boys cross country team for an outstanding performance at the State Championships last Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Our boys placed 4th in the Division I race recording a school record 78:21 team time breaking the school record by 45 seconds. The South Coast League which has been described as the strongest league in the Nation certainly fullfilled the expectations as they finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the race with Dana Hills finishing 2nd with 144 points, Trabuco Hills 3rd with 145 points and El Toro 4th with 160 points. A mere 5 seconds in team time seperated the 3 schools.

This years team finishes the year as the best team in school history having set school records for team time on every single course we have competed on.

El Toro's finishers on the 5000 meter (3.1 miles) course were:

Special recognition goes to Junior Kevin Durham who set an individual school record on the course breaking Brandon Bethke's record by 11 seconds. Kevin earned All State 1st team honors and recorded the 3rd fastest Junior class time in course history. Kevin became the only runner from Orange County to ever break 15:00 minutes on the Woodward Park course in its 25 year history. Kevin recorded the 5th fastest time of the day out of 5 divisions and in doing so qualified as an individual to this week's Nike Cross Country Nationals in Portland, Oregon. The race will be held on Saturday, December 4th at the Portland Meadows Race Track.

CIF Finals
** Highlights **

Congratulations to Hanna Edwards for a strong performance in the CIF Finals. Hanna finished a fine 12th place overall in the Division I finals running 18:44 for 5000 meters on the rain course at Mt.SAC earning All CIF 2nd team honors. Her time was the second fastest time among all Orange County female athletes and fell 3 seconds shy of earning a qualifying spot to the State meet in Fresno.

Congratulations to our boys team for placing 4th overall in the Division I race and qualifying for the State Meet for the 3rd year in a row. This marks the 8th time is school history that El Toro will participate in the State meet as a team.

CIF Preliminaries
** Highlights **

El Toro's Cross Country athletes made a strong showingat Saturday's CIF Preliminaries at Mt. San Antonio College advancing both our boys varsity team and senior Hanna Edwards as an individual to this Saturday's CIF Finals.

Our boys finished as the first place team in Heat 4 of Division 1 advancing the the CIF Finals for the twelfth consecutive year. Our runners and places were:

Tim Bergstrom-17th
Ryan Germann-18th
Kris Frey-26th.

Hanna Edwards finished second in Heat 3 and advanced to the CIF Finals. Hanna recorded the 2nd fastest time in school history on the Mt. SAC course clocking 18:19 for 3 miles.

Boys Varsity takes 2nd Place!

Girls Varsity takes 3rd Place!

Highlights

El Toro took 51 boys and girls to Fresno on October 8-9 to compete in the 32nd Annual Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park, the site of the California State Cross Country Meet held on Thanksgiving Weekend. The course is over a 5000 meter (3.12 miles) layout.

Our girls varsity took home a 3rd place team award in the Varsity Large School Race and recorded a fine 98:39 team time (19:44 avg.). Our varsity consisted of: Hanna Edwards 18:50 (7th), Taylor Romine 19:29 (16th), Makena Lidie 19:50 (29th), Charity Nguyen 20:13 (51st), and Chloe Andruss 20:17 (53rd). Katie Van Wonterghem 21:24 and Alice Hackett 21:42 rounded out the varsity squad.

Our boys varsity finished 2nd in the Championship race and set a team time school record on the course clocking 79:06 (15:49 avg.). This was the 26th fastest team time ever run on the course in its 32 year history. Our varsity consisted of: Kevin Durham 9th (15:23), Juan Gonzalez 14th (15:32), Tim Bergstrom 26th (15:54), Spencer Allen 16:07 (45th), and Ryan Germann 16:10 (58th). Jake Schwartz 16:16 and Kris Frey 16:36 completed the varsity team.

Highlights

Congratulations to Hanna Edwards for setting a school record for 3 miles at the South Coast League Cluster meet. Hanna clocked 17:26 to break Gianna Velasquez' record of 17:31 set in 2008.

Congratulations to our Boys Varsity team for setting a team time school record of 74:59 for our first 5 runners. The former record was 75:16 set last year in the Sea View League Finals. Our five runners were: Juan Gonzalez 14:50, Kevin Durham 14:56, Tim Bergstrom 15:01, Jake Schwartz 15:06 and Spencer Allen 15:06.
